Officers
Our Steering Committee officers are elected by our members in 2-year terms, as designated by our AAACC Bylaws (#8).
For descriptions of our officers’ duties, please see the Bylaws (#9).
Christopher Waldo, Co-Chair
Assistant Professor of Classics, University of Washington
Chris is a Korean American adoptee who grew up in rural Vermont. He first became interested in Classics in a history class as a high school sophomore. Chris has recently completed a book manuscript on classical reception in Asian American literature for the University of Michigan Press. In his spare time, he enjoys playing the alto saxophone.
Tori Lee, Co-Chair
Assistant Professor of Classics, Davidson College
Tori Lee is a multiracial, Chinese-American New Yorker. Her research focuses on violence, ecofeminism, and obscenity in ancient literature, especially Latin poetry, and on critical classical reception and translation. She enjoys crossword puzzles, fitness classes, and cheering on the Mets and Duke Blue Devils.
Katherine Lu Hsu, programming Officer
Assistant Professor of Classics, College of the Holy Cross
Allie Pohler, outreach Officer
Visiting Assistant Professor of Classics, University of Kansas
Allie is a Chinese American adoptee and Michigander at heart. Her research explores the intersections of identity, knowledge, and power in Latin literature, and she is particularly interested in how violence against women and non-citizens was critiqued on the ancient stage. Cuddling with her dogs is her favorite pastime.
Ryan Masato Baldwin, financial officer
Visiting Assistant Professor of Classics, University of Cincinnati
Ryan Masato Baldwin is a Japanese-American raised in Boise, Idaho (Go Broncos!). He is currently a Visiting Assistant Professor in Classics at the University of Cincinnati. Ryan’s research interests include Neronian literature, Epicureanism, intertextuality, and ancient athletics. He was also the recipient of the 2024 Erich S. Gruen Prize for his paper “Nomoiand Cannibalism in Herodotus’ Histories.
mihou tatsumi,
high school intern
Mihou is a high school student from Great Neck South High School in New York. She has been learning Latin for five years, and has recently started to learn Attic Greek. Outside of school, she teaches Latin and Roman mythology to fifth and sixth graders at her local library. She is excited about working with AAACC to make Classics a more inclusive space. In her free time, she loves to read and watch TV shows (especially Succession!)
Dominic machado, Mentorship Coordinator
Associate Professor of Classics, College of the Holy Cross
Dominic is the son of Sri Lankan immigrants who grew up in Central New Jersey. He has spent much of his academic life in New England and currently teaches at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA. When he isn't researching or teaching about ancient history and its many receptions, he enjoys spending time with his family, eating good food, and podcasting about Sri Lankan cricket.
Shreyas Karnam,
high school intern
Shreyas is a high school student from the Harker School in California. He finds the Latin language uniquely beautiful to read, speak, and (attempt to) compose. He looks forward to helping the AAACC with its efforts to make Classics a more inclusive space. When he's not trying to pick up a little ancient Greek, Shreyas loves writing of all kinds and listening to underrated music.
Annie Huynh, Secondary Education Liaison
Annie is Chinese American, and her family's story mirrors many of the boat people who had to leave Vietnam after the war. She was born and raised in Southern California in the heart of Little Saigon, and her interest in Classics began when her older brother forced her to take Latin claiming it would help with her SATs. She is currently working for the California State Teachers' Retirement System, but previously worked as a high school Latin and English teacher in San Francisco. Although she has recently stepped away from teaching, she continues to tutor Latin and participates in a Greek reading group for fun.
Ethan Ganesh Warren, secondary education liaison
Hi everyone! I'm Ethan (or E, feel free to call me either). I'm a fifth year graduate student at UT-Austin on the philology track specializing in gender and sexuality in elegy as well as more public-facing DEI advocacy. I graduated from the University of Rochester in 2019 with my B.A. and received my M.A. from UT in 2021. Outside of the classroom you can catch me attempting (key word here) to run or playing fetch with my dog Kobe.
